Girls Soccer Finishes As NEPSAC Runners-up

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s girls varsity soccer team finished as runners-up in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Association (NEPSAC) Class C tournament after a tough loss to number four seed Greens Farms Academy on Sunday, Nov. 19.

The Storm, the number six  seed made it to the championship game with a superb 5-3 win against number three seed The Ethel Walker School in the quarter-finals and an incredible 1-0 win against number two seed Kimball Union Academy in the semifinal. However, GFA took the championship trophy back to Fairfield County following a 1-0 win.

St. Luke’s soccer capped off another great season and made  it to the NEPSAC championship game against the odds. The team pushed the Dragons the entire match conceding the only goal of the game from a corner kick in the 56th minute. The Storm tried to find an equalizer but the Dragons denied them.

Head Coach Dan Clarke was delighted with how his players conducted themselves. “I am immensely proud of this group,” he said.“We only had 12 fit players for the semifinal in New Hampshire and what they did  was outstanding. First, to pull off a remarkable 1-0 win against the number two seed and then turn around less than 24 hours later to put that performance in against Greens Farms shows so much about their character. Westminster’s motto is ‘Grit and Grace’ and I think our girls showed this in abundance.”
